Arcángel Fernández 1989

This flamenco guitar was built by the master luthier Arcángel Fernández in the year 1989, considered to be one of the best guitar makers in history. His instruments are really hard to get, since Japan collectors bought almost all of them. His guitars are truly admired by guitar makers, collectors and guitarists all around the world.

This guitar used to belong to “Moracho del Puerto”. This professional guitarist owned two of Arcángel Fernández’s guitars (Arcángel and him were close friends), both guitars being made specially for him. His two gems, which were reserved for special ocassions and for him to enjoy them. On the contrary, he used other kind of guitars, not such high quality ones, for his performances and shows. Because of this caring attitude he adopted we can say this guitar is now in optimal condition.

The different woods in this flamenco guitar are of the top existing quality. The Canadian spruce top presents a highly marked and straight grain. The back and the sides are made of Indian rosewood, not a common combination of woods in Arcángel’s flamenco guitars, but which the Maestro proposed to Moracho, due to their friendship. Arcángel Fernández was extremely selective as regards the choice of the woods for the guitar making. He always seeked for nothing but excellence in acoustics and beauty, which can be appreciated in every single guitar he made all along his career.

The sound of this guitar is simply spectacular. It has that particular timbre, so characteristic, distinguishing all his guitars. The bourdons are hoarse and deep, with a somewhat “hollow” sound which we curiously find in its trebles, too. This enhances and counterbalances the overall qualities brilliantly. The volume, quality and warmth it gives off, along with its distinct character, take this instrument to the rank of masterpiece.

The tension is medium, very comfortable for both hands, due to the reduced height of strings in the saddle and fingerboard.

The condition is excellent and completely original, without any cracks or repairs whatsoever.
