This flamenco guitar was made by the master luthier Domingo Esteso´s nephews in the emblematic workshop in 7 Gravina Street. This workshop was owned by Faustino and Mariano Conde. Lots of great performers have been in this workshop. For example, Paco de Lucía, Melchor de Marchena, Niño Ricardo, Cepero, Pepe Habichuela, and so many others.
The signature on the label is not the original one. Instead, somebody else signed it after the guitar was made. This instrument is part of a series of guitars made especially for the artists of that time. They were guitars which were delivered without being signed, thus allowing professionals to acquire them at a more affordable price, although committing themselves not to make a further profit with them.
This flamenco guitar is built with superior quality woods, impossible to obtain nowadays. The german spruce sound top has a perfect veining: straight, uniform and very marked over its entire surface, the back and sides are made of cypress wood, with an outstanding quality and beauty. The finishes are the typical ones of Hermanos Conde.
The sound emerging from this guitar possesses some special features and nuances, where the flamenco touch from this signature can be definitely found. The basses are very strong, with a very particular percussive sound. The trebles is just crystalline and well-defined and with an amazing scope, all of which makes quite a balanced set of features and a very accentuated flamenco sound, perfect both for a concert or for “cante” and “baile” accompaniment.
The tension of this flamenco guitar is medium, and the height of strings in saddle and fingerboard is very reduced. The height on the fret 12 is 2.1 mm, thereby ensuring an extraordinary level of comfort.
The condition of this flamenco guitar is excellent. The top has been slightly touched up with natural nitrocellulose varnish, without affecting the original thickness in any single way, but keeping its excellent sound features intact.
