Flamenco guitar Sobrinos de Domingo Esteso 1974

This flamenco guitar was built in the landmark workshop Gravina Street No. 7 by the nephews of the master luthier Domingo Esteso, then run by brothers Faustino and Mariano Conde. Many were the figures who passed through this workshop suing their guitars as Paco de Lucia, Melchor de Marchena, Niño Ricardo, Cepero, Pepe Habichuela… and much more.

This flamenco guitar is part of a collection made up of three ones, by José Ramírez and two of them by Sobrinos de Domingo Esteso, belonging to a really infuential guitarist and collector of that time, with important connections in the world of flamenco.

Surprisingly, this guitar is built with a sequoia top, this gives it a unique exclusivity! As we told you on other occasions, Sequoia wood has certain acoustic characteristics that make it one of the best woods to use for flamenco guitars, due to the shape and distribution of its grain and the crystallisation of its interior fibres and resins, which achieve a timbre that resembles the speed and clarity of cedar’s but with the sweetness and bass closer to spruce-pine’s. The back and sides are made of cypress wood, whose beauty and quality are simply magnificent.

This flamenco guitar is really special, as it is not signed, which is wonderful, as it means it was made for a professional performer. In fact, these guitars were top-notch ones, but more affordable for professionals to acquire. It resulted in a compulsory commitment not to make a profit of them. However, as regards plain quality, these guitars are considered better than first-level ones which are signed! This information is unknown to so many people, but we like to share it, as it provides a more accurate view of what these instruments really are: far better than the stereotype of “second-level guitars”.

This instrument, just like its “partner” of spruce of ’69, has this beautiful timbre which captivated the great maestros of the golden age, but with the quickness and strength of the best cedar guitars. A wonderful guitar which will be the first one of an performer, no matter how good their other guitars are!

This guitar has the highly-valued “rebound beating” on the right hand, combined with fantastic softness on the left one, thus accomplishing the “perfect instrument”, should we want to spend hours and hours playing non-stop with a nice feeling of ease.

The condition of this flamenco guitar is excellent, being completely original and without any single kind of crack or repair whatsoever.
