The Californian guitar maker Lester Devoe is the luthier who made this fine flamenco guitar, made in 1995. Lester Devoe is regarded as one of the best flamenco guitar makers in the world. In fact, his pieces of work have been praised and played by Paco de Lucia, Vicente Amigo, Sabicas… both in recording studios and live concerts.
The different woods in this flamenco guitar are of the top existing quality. The top is made of german spruce, with an outlined grain, straight and smooth, that endorse its exceptional quality. The back and sides are made of Indian rosewood, with a straight grain and beautiful tones. The finishing is elegant and sober. The making is simple, not overelaborate. In fact, it could be labelled as “minimalist”. This adjective has accompanied this luthier from the very beginning of his career, and we love it, as it is in simplicity that greatness is often found.
This guitar is a perfect instrument, it has everything you would ask from a guitar: strength, volume, projection, character… Besides, the tone it gives off is very “warm” and this is a detail that we value very much since sometimes guitars as perfect as this one (with volume, projection, sound quality…) end up being “cold”, empty, without soul. So to speak, this is an aspect that we can compare with great guitar artists or singers: some could play and sing very well and still transmit or say nothing!
This guitar has the highly-valued “rebound beating” on the right hand, combined with fantastic softness on the left one, thus accomplishing the “perfect instrument”, should we want to spend hours and hours playing non-stop with a nice feeling of ease.
The condition of this flamenco guitar is really good. It has two cracks on the top, practically invisible, and perfectly repaired with glue, not having used any wooden pawns to do so, due to their little seriousness and their location. After the repair, the top was brushed up again, with natural nitrocellulose varnish.
