Flamenco guitar Manuel Reyes 1971

This flamenco guitar was made by the master luthier Manuel Reyes in 1971. His guitars are regarded as pieces of work, and him, as one of the greatest luthiers ever. In fact, his guitars have been (and are) played by some of the best performers ever: Vicente Amigo, Tomatito, Jose Luis Postigo, Manolo Franco, and so many others.

This flamenco guitar was acquired by its previous owner, directly from master guitarist Pepe Martínez. It comes from a time when the craftsman stood out for such a marked flamenco timbre. He used exceptional woods, both aesthetically and acoustically, intending to be recognized as one of the very best guitar makers. Both the cypress and the German spruce employed for this fine instrument are the very epitome of quality and beauty, which obviously derives in a breathtakingly beautiful sound, in turn resulting in an instrument with incredible flamenco timbre, and a perfect balance, with deep and dry bass strings, and a really particular hollow timbre, typical of the very best guitars by this maker, with that magnificent strumming quickly identified, and associated to that character and sound of the best guitar ever made by this true genius.

The tension is medium, and the height of strings in saddle and fingerboard, perfectly balanced, so it is quite a comfortable guitar for both hands.

Its condition is excellent . Its previous owner, after acquiring it directly from the guitarist Pepe Martínez, sent it to Manuel Reyes to have the varnish restored, and a new pickguard installed, in 1985. Owing to the wearing on the top at varnish level, Manuel Reyes decided to disguise it, by filling the superficial gaps before varnishing, in order to attain an aesthetically perfect finis (the varnish tends to get darker on irregular surfaces with marks), all of which would have resulted in bad aesthetics. Therefore, we find a guitar with excellent condition, and without any kind of crack or repair. It has only gone through a slight retouch of the varnish, not affecting the original thickness of the wood. New pickguards were also installed at Manuel Reyes´s workshop, in 1985. A real treasure, unfortunately too hard to come across these days.
