Vicente Amigo Celebrates 40 Years of His Musical Career with a Very Special Tour
To speak of Vicente Amigo is to speak of one of the greatest musical geniuses of our time. His influence extends far beyond flamenco, helping to shape the sound of the modern flamenco guitar like very few artists ever have. Alongside legendary figures such as Paco de Lucía and Tomatito, his contribution to the guitar and to music as a whole is simply monumental.
Few musicians have developed such a distinctive and unmistakable musical language. It takes only a few notes to recognize Vicente’s guitar. It is no coincidence that guitarists and flamenco enthusiasts often say, “That sounds like Paco” or “That sounds like Vicente.” Only the greatest masters create a style so influential that it becomes a reference point for generations of performers and composers.
Widely regarded by critics and audiences alike as one of the great innovators of flamenco, Vicente Amigo has built an exemplary career founded on respect for tradition, a constant search for new musical horizons, and an artistic sensitivity that has captivated audiences worldwide without ever losing the true essence of flamenco.
Although this anniversary is linked to the beginning of his recording career, Vicente’s musical journey started several years earlier. His first professional experiences came with Maestro Merengue, earning his first income performing at Club Santuario. Shortly afterwards, at just fifteen years of age, Manolo Sanlúcar invited him to join his group. Vicente often recalls those years as an invaluable period of learning alongside one of his greatest inspirations, although he also acknowledges that it delayed the development of his own artistic path. Five years later, he made one of the most important decisions of his life by embarking on a solo career.
Since the late 1980s, Vicente Amigo has enjoyed one of the most remarkable careers in Spanish music.
Winner of the Festival Nacional del Cante de las Minas, the Ramón Montoya Award, the Medal of Andalusia, the Ondas Award, and the Grammy Award for Best Flamenco Album for Ciudad de las Ideas, among many other honours, he has become an absolute reference for several generations of musicians.
His discography stands among the most important bodies of work in contemporary flamenco. From De mi corazón al aire (1991), which earned him the Ícaro and Ojo Crítico awards, to his latest album, Andenes del tiempo (2024), Vicente Amigo has developed a unique musical language that has expanded the boundaries of flamenco and introduced it to audiences around the world.
Throughout his career he has collaborated with artists such as Paco de Lucía, Alejandro Sanz, Sting, Miguel Bosé, José Mercé, Niña Pastori, Enrique Morente and John McLaughlin, demonstrating an extraordinary ability to engage with different musical styles while remaining authentic and deeply rooted in flamenco.
The 40th Anniversary Tour will be much more than a series of concerts.
