This flamenco guitar was built in 1968 by master luthier Manuel Reyes. His guitars are regarded as true works of art, and he is recognized as one of the greatest guitar makers in history. His instruments have been, and continue to be, played by guitarists from all over the world, including Vicente Amigo, Tomatito, José Luis Postigo, Manolo Franco, and many others.

The woods used in the construction of this flamenco guitar are German spruce for the soundboard and Spanish royal cypress for the sides and back. The soundboard features striking, straight and uniform grain across its entire surface. The sides and back are made from cypress of exceptional quality and beauty.

This flamenco guitar offers a truly unique acoustic experience! It delivers an exceptional flamenco tone, in which rasgueados and alzapúa passages come alive with a profound jondo character. The trebles are crystalline and full-bodied, far removed from the thin, overly bright sound often found in other guitars. The bass strings are brilliant, with the characteristic metallic edge so distinctive of Reyes guitars. The guitar has medium action, with perfectly balanced string height at both the fingerboard and the saddle, providing excellent playing comfort for both hands.

The guitar is in excellent condition. The French polish has been retouched by master Antonio Ariza, regarded by many as one of the leading practitioners of the traditional hand-applied French polishing technique. This work was carried out while fully preserving the original thickness of the wood. As a result, the marks accumulated through years of use and natural wear remain visible. We have always advocated this approach, as it preserves the original wood thickness and helps maintain the instrument’s acoustic properties and tonal qualities intact.

There is a very superficial crack beneath the golpeador (tap plate), repaired using glue alone. As it lies directly over the fan braces, there is no risk of the crack extending.
