This flamenco guitar was built by master luthier Arcángel Fernández in 1965, widely regarded as one of the greatest guitar makers in history. His instruments are extremely difficult to obtain, as the vast majority were acquired by Japanese collectors. His guitars are praised by luthiers, collectors, and guitarists all over the world.
The woods used in this flamenco guitar are of the highest possible quality. The spruce soundboard features very pronounced, straight, and even grain throughout its entire surface, while the back and sides are made from cypress of exceptional beauty and quality. Arcángel Fernández was extremely selective when choosing woods for his guitars, always seeking excellence in both acoustics and visual beauty—something clearly evident in every instrument he built throughout his life.
This flamenco guitar is truly astonishing. When we first received it and saw the number of repairs it had undergone, our expectations regarding its sound were not particularly high… nothing could be further from the truth. It has proven to be one of the Arcángel Fernández guitars we have enjoyed the most in recent years, overflowing with flamenco character and sound quality at the highest level. Its beautiful tone, combined with an outstanding and incredibly comfortable playability, makes it a guitar you want to play for hours on end—enhancing your entire repertoire in a masterful way.
The string action and setup of this guitar are simply perfect, allowing for an extremely comfortable feel in both hands and optimal fluidity when playing the instrument.
The overall condition of the guitar is good. It shows a considerable number of internal repairs. When a guitar is restored, existing cracks are repaired, but it is also advisable to reinforce structural weaknesses to prevent future damage. For this reason, although only six repaired cracks are visible externally—three of them on the soundboard—we can count up to eleven repairs in total. Without a doubt, this restoration is of the highest quality. The guitar retains extraordinary left- and right-hand playability, a sublime flamenco tone, and at all times preserves the unique character and personality found in the finest guitars made by Arcángel Fernández.
