This flamenco guitar was built in 2026 by the luthier Paco Rey. Francisco Rey Manzorro was born in Cádiz in 1978 and showed an early interest in both wood and the guitar. At the age of nine, he had his first flamenco guitar teacher, and from that moment on he cultivated both passions independently. With more than 20 years of experience in his own woodworking workshop, he developed a high level of technical skill in woodcraft and tool handling. In 2005, he met Rafael López Porras in Cádiz, who taught him the traditional method of guitar construction. Since then, he has been building guitars in his workshop in El Puerto de Santa María.
The tonewoods used in this flamenco guitar are sequoia for the soundboard and Madagascar rosewood for the back and sides. Sequoia has unique acoustic characteristics that place it among the finest woods for flamenco guitar construction. This is due to the structure and orientation of its grain, along with the crystallization of its internal fibers and resins, which produce a tone combining the precision and clarity of cedar with the warmth and deeper bass response closer to spruce. The combination of Madagascar rosewood and sequoia, as mentioned above, is a reliable choice that guarantees a powerful, well-defined sound with great projection—essential qualities for a high-level concert guitar.
The action is medium, and the string height—both at the saddle and along the fingerboard—is perfectly balanced, ensuring a uniform feel throughout the entire range. This setup provides excellent comfort for both hands, facilitating fluid execution, reducing fatigue, and enhancing precision in right-hand articulation as well as left-hand pressure control and position shifts.
The overall condition of this flamenco guitar is brand new.
