This flamenco guitar was built by the renowned José Ramírez workshop in 1972, one of the firm’s most prolific periods, when guitarists from all over the world, both classical and flamenco, visited their workshop: Paco de Lucía, Manolo Sanlúcar, Narciso Yepes, Serranito… among many others.
The wood used for the construction of this flamenco guitar is Canadian cedar for the soundboard and genuine Spanish cypress for the back and sides. The soundboard displays a very marked, straight, and uniform grain throughout its surface. The back and sides are made of cypress of exceptional quality and beauty.
This guitar bears the label that was used at the time for “1st class” and “2nd class” guitars, but interestingly, it was not assigned a “class.” It shows all the construction features of a 1st class guitar, but it must be taken into account that the Ramírez firm was particularly known for using wood of supreme quality. Most likely, the cypress found in this guitar —which would undoubtedly be considered of the very highest grade today— was not given the “1st class” designation back then.
The number 13 stamped inside corresponds to the craftsman who built this guitar, in this case Teodoro Pérez.
The sound of this flamenco guitar is of the highest category, with deep, powerful basses and bright, crystalline trebles. It has the legendary flamenco timbre we have heard and enjoyed hundreds of times in the hands of great masters such as Sabicas, Sanlúcar, or Serranito, among others.
The playability of this flamenco guitar is medium, with a perfect string action of 2.5 mm at the 12th fret, while the overall neck relief is quite low (6.2 mm).
Its condition is excellent and completely original, with no cracks or repairs of any kind.
