Classical guitar José Ramírez 1968 nº2819

This flamenco guitar was built by the popular José Ramírez firm in 1968, one of the company’s most prolific periods, when guitarists from all over the world, both classical and flamenco, would come to their workshop – Paco de Lucía, Manolo Sanlúcar, Narciso Yepes, Serranito… among many others.

This guitar is made from woods of exceptional quality, impossible to find nowadays. The Brazilian rosewood has a hazelnut tone with beautiful grain patterns and a sweet aroma that confirms it is genuine Dalbergia Nigra or Jacaranda. The Canadian cedar soundboard shows straight and even grain lines. An excellent combination that gives this guitar the quality and character typical of the Ramírez firm in that era. The sides are built using the “double side” system created by José Ramírez III, with Brazilian rosewood on the outside and cypress on the inside. This is not plywood, but two solid wood pieces glued together to achieve a specific acoustic effect. The bracing is particularly interesting: it features a diagonal transverse bar and a fan of six parallel struts.

The guitar bears the initials A.S., indicating that it was built by master luthier Arturo Sanzano.

Guitars of this type from Ramírez, built in this period, are extremely difficult to find. The craftsmanship is simply perfect in every aspect: finishing, fitting, woods… Observing the construction details and the sound quality it produces, it is easy to understand why the Ramírez workshop became one of the leading and most prestigious Spanish guitar makers worldwide for so many years. Its sound combines volume, projection, and quality with a truly beautiful timbre, very versatile, equally suitable for classical or flamenco if the proper adjustments are made. This guitar has greatly surprised us, as the way it projects sound is truly incredible and the acoustic effect it achieves with just the lightest touch defies all logic.

Although it has slightly higher string action than usual for a flamenco guitar, since it was originally built for classical, it is worth highlighting the smooth playability it offers for both the left and right hand, making it extremely comfortable and easy to play for any guitarist. It is also worth mentioning that this guitar could be perfectly adapted to flamenco by lowering the saddle height.

Its condition is excellent and original, with no cracks or repairs of any kind.
