This flamenco guitar was built by the renowned José Ramírez workshop in 1970, one of the most prolific periods in the company’s history. During those years, guitarists from all over the world visited the workshop, both classical and flamenco players, including Paco de Lucía, Manolo Sanlúcar, Narciso Yepes and Serranito, among many others.
The woods used for this flamenco guitar are Canadian cedar for the top and Spanish cypress for the back and sides. The soundboard shows a very pronounced, straight and uniform grain across its entire surface. The back and sides are made from cypress of exceptional quality and beauty.
The initials J.G. indicate that it was built by master luthier Juan García Rey. It is worth noting that most white flamenco concert guitars from the Ramírez workshop were built with traditional wooden friction pegs, whereas this guitar was made with mechanical tuners, which strongly suggests it was built as a custom order. The original mechanical tuner has been replaced with a new high-end one valued at €200.
The sound produced by this guitar is truly spectacular, combining power and tonal quality in a remarkable way. As we have mentioned on other occasions, the golden era of the José Ramírez workshop spanned from 1960 to 1972. After this period and until the end of the 1970s, very good guitars were still built, but in our opinion the tone and acoustic quality of that earlier period are simply unmatched. We are looking at an instrument that is outstanding in every respect: projection, tonal richness, volume, and an exceptional flamenco character.
The action of this flamenco guitar is medium, and the string spacing at both the fingerboard and saddle is very well balanced, factors that make playing easier and provide great comfort for the guitarist.
The overall condition of this flamenco guitar is good. It has two cracks on the soundboard that have been professionally repaired, clearly documented in the accompanying images, as well as several marks in the varnish resulting from many hours of professional use.
This allows us to offer the instrument at a more accessible price, making it possible to acquire a guitar of the highest category for significantly less than its usual market value, making it an excellent opportunity.
