Flamenco guitar Gerundino Fernández 1991

This flamenco guitar was built by the Almería luthier Gerundino Fernández in 1991. He is considered one of the greatest guitar makers in history, despite being self-taught and leading a bohemian life towards the end of his career. His guitars have been played on the world’s finest stages by renowned artists such as Paco Peña, Tomatito and Raimundo Amador.

This is a rare opportunity, one that seldom appears on the market: a truly hard-to-find instrument.

This guitar belongs to the 1990s, a particular period in Gerundino’s career. Due to his great prestige and high demand, he collaborated with craftsmen from other cities. While these guitars maintained high quality, they did not always reach the unique tonal personality and exceptional level of those built directly in his Almería workshop, where his wife worked closely alongside him.

For this reason, guitars from this period are usually valued lower than those from the 1970s and 1980s. However, in this case, we can confidently confirm that this guitar was built in Gerundino’s own workshop. Its internal construction, tonal character, and craftsmanship details clearly demonstrate its authenticity and origin.

Additionally, this guitar was originally purchased by a professional guitarist from Madrid, now retired. This further increases its value, as during that time Gerundino reserved his finest instruments for professional players, while others were sold to enthusiasts.

Whoever acquires this guitar will own a truly exceptional instrument, with a unique personality, unmistakable flamenco character, and a richness of tone that only Gerundino could achieve. Moreover, having been played extensively by a professional guitarist has significantly contributed to developing a more mature, deep, and refined sound.

This guitar features the highly sought-after “rebound” right-hand response, combined with remarkable softness in the left hand, creating the perfect instrument for long playing sessions without fatigue.

The condition is excellent. It retains the originality of all its parts, including the finish. However, the fretboard has been replaced due to significant wear, with noticeable grooves caused by the many hours the instrument has been played. An exquisite job, carried out masterfully.
