This flamenco guitar was built in the emblematic workshop at 7 Gravina Street by the nephews of master luthier Domingo Esteso, then run by the Conde brothers, Faustino and Mariano. Many great figures visited this workshop seeking their guitars, such as Paco de Lucía, Melchor de Marchena, Niño Ricardo, Cepero, Pepe Habichuela, and many others.
The woods of this flamenco guitar are of the highest quality. The spruce soundboard displays a very pronounced, straight, and uniform grain throughout, with the presence of the highly prized “bear claw” across much of its surface. The sides and back are made of cypress of supreme beauty and quality.
This flamenco guitar is very special, as it is unsigned—a fact we see positively. Many of these were first-class guitars delivered unsigned, allowing professionals to acquire them at a more affordable price while committing not to “profit” from them. For this reason, in many cases, as with this one, these guitars are superior to the signed first-class models. This is little-known information that we like to share because it gives a more accurate view of what these guitars really are, contrary to the widespread belief that they are “second-class” instruments—nothing could be further from the truth!
The sound of this flamenco guitar is the authentic and genuine voice of the Hermanos Conde signature from that wonderful era of the 1970s. The basses carry that unique, personal depth unmatched by any other maker, while the trebles are full-bodied and clear, making this instrument a true jewel to enjoy for a lifetime.
This guitar features the highly appreciated “rebound touch” for the right hand, combined with exceptional smoothness in the left hand, achieving the “perfect instrument” to spend hours playing without fatigue, with a pleasant feeling of ease.
The condition of this flamenco guitar is excellent and completely original. It only has a very small, superficial crack on the side, which does not require repair due to its location and slight nature, and is fully documented in the attached images. The date is somewhat difficult to read, as time and the quality of the ink used at that time have caused the color to fade, but upon close inspection the year can be clearly distinguished. It also shows tiny holes at the joint of the sides and in the heel, likely made with a small eyelet, probably to hang the guitar. These do not affect the integrity of the instrument, as the wood in these areas is solid and thick, and the holes are only a few millimeters deep.
