This guitar was built by Juan Estruch in 1977. The Estruch workshop dates back to 1880, when Juan Estruch Rosell created his first instrument, starting a family tradition in lutherie continued by his son Juan Estruch Sastre and later Juan Estruch Pipó. After the latter passed away without descendants, the workshop was taken over by Rafael Montes Ramírez, former head of the workshop who began as an apprentice at the age of 14. Considered the oldest guitar workshop in Catalonia and the second oldest in Spain, Estruch has also been an important training ground for many luthiers and a cultural meeting point, especially during the 1960s with the rise of La Nova Cançó Catalana, when its historic Carrer Ample workshop in Barcelona became a hub for musicians and artists of the era.
This guitar was crafted with solid cypress for the back and sides and Canadian cedar for the soundboard, a combination highly valued for its fast response, authentic flamenco character, and powerful projection.
Although the workshop operated under an artisanal serial system, each guitar was handcrafted by expert luthiers, designed to be robust, reliable, and consistently sounding, traditionally known as a “battle guitar”—an instrument built to endure heavy playing, travel, and daily use.
At the time, this model had a high price within the workshop’s catalogue, but today it is not considered a collector’s item, making it an excellent opportunity to acquire a high-quality flamenco instrument at an accessible price.
It is a semi-professional guitar, with strong volume, very comfortable to play, and a lively, cheerful flamenco personality. It responds exceptionally well to both powerful rasgueados and melodic playing, delivering the direct and vibrant feel that every flamenco guitarist seeks.
This is the type of guitar that any player would want always at hand: perfect for practice, travel, informal performances, or those moments when the main concert guitar is not ideal to take out.
It is also an ideal choice for advanced students or serious enthusiasts seeking a genuine instrument with authentic flamenco sound, comfort, and character.
The guitar is in very good condition, with only a single crack on the back that has been professionally repaired and is documented in the attached images.
This allows us to offer the instrument at a more accessible price, making it possible to acquire a guitar of the highest category for significantly less than its usual market value, making it an excellent opportunity.
