This flamenco guitar was made by the master luthier Manuel Reyes in 1968. His guitars are regarded as pieces of work, and him, as one of the greatest luthiers ever. In fact, his guitars have been (and are) played by some of the best performers ever: Vicente Amigo, Tomatito, Jose Luis Postigo, Manolo Franco, and so many others.
This flamenco guitar is built with superior quality woods, impossible to obtain nowadays. The top are made of german spruce has a totally straight and even grain, which is quite accentuated. The back and sides are made of cypress wood, whose beauty and quality are simply magnificent.
This flamenco guitar belongs to the first period of this genius craftsman. During those years, Manuel Reyes had already managed to take the cypress guitar, popularly considered as an accompaniment guitar, to a higher level, turning it into an authentic concert instrument. A guitar with a deeply flamenco tone and with a unique quality and projection, where the strumming reaches levels of sophistication that make it unmistakable and essential.
The tension is medium, and the height of strings in saddle and fingerboard, perfectly balanced, so it is quite a comfortable guitar for both hands.
The condition of this flamenco guitar is very good. It presents some fissures in the soundboard, sides, and back, perfectly repaired and documented in the attached images. The original, smaller-sized, white pickguards, adhered with glue, were replaced by new, larger, transparent ones, revealing the silhouette of the previous pickguard. Certainly, we could have touched up the varnish across the entire soundboard, resulting in a better aesthetic outcome, but as always, we have preferred to prioritize the preservation of its sound and originality. All these details affect the price of the guitar, making it a great opportunity to acquire an instrument of the highest quality at a price much lower than it should be.
