This flamenco guitar was made by the master luthier Manuel Reyes in 1990. His guitars are regarded as pieces of work, and him, as one of the greatest luthiers ever. In fact, his guitars have been (and are) played by some of the best performers ever: Vicente Amigo, Tomatito, Jose Luis Postigo, Manolo Franco, and so many others.
This flamenco guitar is built with woods of superior quality, virtually impossible to find today. The spruce top features a very prominent, straight, and uniform grain across its entire surface, while the back and sides are made of cypress of supreme beauty and quality.
The sound of this flamenco guitar is of unmatched quality and character. It is a guitar with a big, powerful tone, ideal for all forms of flamenco playing: solo performance, cante and baile accompaniment—perfect for both live concerts and studio recording. The rasgueos on this guitar are simply unbeatable: it has that unmistakable “Reyes timbre”—broken and bright, yet with the depth and weight that only he knew how to bring to flamenco guitars. A sound that continues to captivate guitarists, both professional and amateur, as well as collectors around the world. This is an instrument built during the luthier’s golden years, possessing all the qualities any true seeker of Manuel Reyes guitars would desire.
The action is medium, with a very balanced string height both at the fingerboard and the saddle, providing great comfort for both hands and ease of play.
The guitar is in excellent and fully original condition, with no cracks or repairs of any kind. The golpeadores (tap plates) show a minor and purely aesthetic imperfection—they are slightly shrunken, a well-known characteristic among aficionados and experts that affected several of the luthier’s guitars during the 1980s, and is a clear indicator of the guitar’s authenticity.
