This flamenco guitar was built by the luthier Manuel G. Mayoral in Barcelona in 1974. Mayoral, the name under which he signed his guitars, is regarded as one of the finest luthiers in Catalonia. He was a master and teacher to many of Barcelona’s present-day luthiers, including Casimiro González and Jaume Bosser, among others. His guitars are highly valued by the professionals and enthusiasts who know them, thanks to their distinctive tonal character and exceptional playability.
The guitar was built using carefully selected woods. The Canadian cedar soundboard features a straight, uniform and highly pronounced grain across its entire surface. The cypress sides and back display a straight grain with beautiful natural colouring.
This flamenco guitar produces a spectacular sound, far beyond what one would expect for its price. It has an unmistakably flamenco voice, full of personality, combined with an exceptionally beautiful and refined tone, which can undoubtedly be compared with that of guitars from far more renowned makers whose prices are twice or even three times higher than this instrument. We must admit that we have a particular affection for the guitars of this maker, as he was one of the most highly regarded master craftsmen in our home city of Barcelona. However, our appreciation of his work is not simply a matter of proximity. His guitars are genuinely remarkable from a tonal standpoint, possessing a distinctive personality and individual voice that won over many great guitarists of his time.
The guitar has a medium string tension and a low action, both at the fingerboard and at the saddle, providing the player with excellent comfort in both hands and making the instrument particularly easy to play.
The condition of this flamenco guitar is excellent, and the instrument remains completely original, with no cracks or repairs of any kind.
