Flamenco guitar Santos Hernández 1929

This flamenco guitar was built by the legendary luthier Santos Hernández in 1929. Widely regarded as the most distinguished disciple of Manuel Ramírez, Santos Hernández worked in Ramírez’s workshop for 23 years before opening his own atelier at 23 Aduana Street in Madrid in 1918. Between 1916 and his passing in 1943, he is estimated to have built around 300 guitars. Many of the greatest guitarists of the era performed on his instruments, including Ramón Montoya, Andrés Segovia, Sabicas, Niño Ricardo, and Regino Sainz de la Maza.

This Santos Hernández guitar represents a truly exceptional opportunity in today’s market. Finding an instrument by this legendary maker in such remarkable condition, approaching a century of age, is extraordinarily rare.

This is a top-tier flamenco model featuring its original branded soundboard stamp and hand-signed label. It has been crafted from the finest tonewoods, reflecting the outstanding quality and craftsmanship for which Santos Hernández is renowned.

Every time we have the privilege of playing a Santos Hernández guitar, we are reminded that it offers something entirely unique. Its haunting resonance transports you to another era, with a deep, expressive voice that projects effortlessly, creating the sensation of playing inside a church or a cave. It is a truly extraordinary and inspiring experience that embodies the timeless magic of the Spanish guitar.

In terms of playability, the guitar offers a perfectly balanced and comfortable action for the left hand, making it not only a remarkable historical piece but also a fully functional professional instrument for today’s guitarist. Overall, this is an outstanding flamenco guitar: highly responsive, full of character, and capable of meeting the expectations of the most demanding performers and discerning collectors alike.

The guitar is in excellent overall condition. It has only one crack on the back, which has been professionally repaired and is fully documented in the accompanying photographs. The finish has been lightly refreshed with nitrocellulose lacquer, preserving both its original wood thickness and its outstanding acoustic qualities. In short, this is a historically significant instrument that is exceptionally difficult to find in such remarkable condition. With its soundboard completely intact, it offers the perfect balance between historical value and genuine suitability as a professional concert instrument.
