Flamenco guitar Santos Hernández 1932

This flamenco guitar was built by the legendary master luthier Santos Hernández in 1932. He was Manuel Ramírez´s best disciple, working for him for 23 years. In 1918 he opened his own workshop in 23 Aduana Street. Santos Hernández built around 300 guitars since 1916 until his very death. These guitars were used by many of the greatest guitarists of that time: Ramón Montoya, Andrés Segovia, Sabicas, Niño Ricardo, Regino Sainz de la Maza, etc.

The different kinds of wood used in its construction have an excellent quality. German spruce can be seen in the top, with a very marked, straight and even grain and Spanish Royal Cypress is the kind of wood employed for the back and sides.

The sound that this instrument produces is truly evocative. That flamenco timbre, reminiscent of a Spanish guitar, which only Santos was capable of achieving in his time, combined with the maturity that the passage of years has bestowed upon the instrument, makes masterpieces like this one possible. It features powerful, deep basses with a beautiful resonance, and crystalline trebles with a lyrical voice, offering great projection and sustain. In short, acoustic excellence condensed into an instrument that once again demonstrates the greatness of this guitar-making genius.

The action is medium, and the string height at the saddle and fingerboard is perfectly balanced, offering great comfort for both hands and facilitating playability for the guitarist.

The condition is very good and entirely original, including the French polish. It has two cracks on the soundboard and one on the side, all of which have been perfectly repaired and documented in the attached images. It is worth noting the solidity of the construction, which makes this instrument suitable for playing and using in any situation—breaking the stereotype that an old guitar is fragile and delicate.
