This flamenco guitar was built in 2002 by the renowned Andalusian luthier Valeriano Bernal, one of the most established names in contemporary flamenco guitar making. His instruments are highly appreciated by both professional players and advanced amateurs, standing out for their balance, reliability and a very distinctive flamenco character. The Duende model represents one of the highest expressions within his cypress guitar range, conceived as a high-performance instrument for live playing.
The woods used in its construction are of the highest quality and have been carefully selected and aged for many years. The soundboard is made of German spruce, featuring a straight, fine and even grain that ensures excellent acoustic response. The back is crafted from solid cypress, providing that dry and percussive character so characteristic of traditional flamenco sound. Particularly noteworthy is its double solid sides construction in rosewood and cypress, a technical solution that enhances structural stability and tonal richness.
It is worth highlighting the traditional wooden peghead system, which incorporates an internal mechanism that provides precise tuning without the drawbacks of the old wooden friction pegs. It combines the aesthetic beauty of traditional pegheads with the accuracy and practicality of a modern mechanical tuning system.
In terms of sound, this is a powerful and very well-balanced guitar with outstanding projection. It offers great clarity across the entire fingerboard, with well-defined basses and bright yet controlled trebles, without harshness. The response is immediate, delivering the percussive attack and dryness sought in flamenco playing, while maintaining a remarkable harmonic richness. A versatile instrument capable of performing at the highest level both in studio and on stage.
The action and playability have been carefully adjusted. It is a very comfortable guitar to play, with a fast and precise response. The tuning is stable, and the string tension is well balanced, allowing for a smooth execution and making the player feel at ease from the very first moment, without the need for any adaptation period.
The condition of this flamenco guitar is excellent. It remains in perfect structural condition and fully original. It only shows a small crack on the lower part of the back, which does not require any repair, as it does not go through the wood and does not affect the sound or the stability of the instrument.
