This flamenco guitar was made in 1965 by Gerundino Fernández, a prestigious guitar maker, born in Almería. He is regarded as one of the best guitar makers ever, despite the facts of being self-taught and leading a bohemian life in his last years. His guitars have been present in stages all over with guitar performers like Paco Peña, Tomatito, Raimundo Amador…
This flamenco guitar is a unique instrument, from Gerundino’s first period, with a different stencil from the one he would design later. This guitar is inspired in Antonio de Torres’s school, but also with some personal contributions, as well. A high-quality guitar, regarding both the woods and finishes, which are exceptionally good. It was an early proof of Gerundino’s gift, which would lead him where he was meant to arrive: the throne of the very best guitar makers in history.
The sound of this guitar is absolutely wonderful. Its flamenco and aggressive timbre, really bright but with a good body. Clear trebles, and great power which makes the whole instrument vibrate, passing it on to the guitarists’s chest. Such a luxurious instrument in an excellent condition, preserving all its original parts, without any repairs whatsoever. A dream guitar with perfect stability, as it has has not been moved during all this years. Therefore, it is ideal for collecting or playing it, for us to enjoy it for a lifetime. It has been built with carefully selected woods: the top is made of german spruce, with a straight, even and very marked grain along its whole surface, whereas perfect cypress wood has been chosen for the back and sides.
The tension of this flamenco guitar is medium, and the height of strings in saddle and fingerboard is very reduced. The height on the fret 12 is 2.3 mm, thereby ensuring an extraordinary level of comfort.
