This flamenco guitar was built in 1971 at the emblematic workshop located at 7 Calle Gravina, Madrid, by the nephews of master luthier Domingo Esteso, at a time when the workshop was run by brothers Faustino and Mariano Conde. Many of the great names of flamenco visited this workshop in search of their guitars, including Paco de Lucía, Melchor de Marchena, Niño Ricardo, Cepero, Pepe Habichuela… and many others.
Built in 1971, this guitar is crafted from a selection of fine tonewoods that define the essence of the traditional flamenco guitar: Canadian cedar spruce top and cypress back and sides, a classic combination that provides balance, lightness and a lively response.
It belongs to a particularly sought-after decade in the history of the prestigious Hermanos Conde firm, considered by many — and by us as well — to be the finest period of the brand, both for its distinctive sound and for the quality and character of its instruments. This guitar is a remarkable example of that unique and unrepeatable moment in the history of flamenco guitar making.
The sound of this flamenco guitar is exceptional, with the unmistakable tone that has made these instruments true references in the world of flamenco. Its voice is deeply flamenco, offering remarkable clarity, projection and an immediate response that allows the player to express themselves with precision and definition. It clearly evokes the character and echoes of artists such as Paco Cepero, Parrilla and master Paco de Lucía during his early years, with that dry, focused and highly distinctive quality so sought after in this type of instrument.
The guitar offers the highly prized “rebound” feel under the right hand, combined with an exceptional softness under the left hand. With just 2.2 mm of string height at the 12th fret, it provides an almost perfect playing experience, allowing the guitarist to play for hours without fatigue and with an effortless, remarkably comfortable feel.
The condition of the guitar is simply extraordinary. It remains impeccable, with no cracks or repairs of any kind. The varnish was restored at least 25 years ago, using the same type of varnish employed by the firm and with the utmost respect for the integrity of the wood. The craquelure now visible across the entire surface is clear evidence of the time that has elapsed since that restoration, giving the instrument a beautiful patina and a truly magnificent aesthetic character.
