Flamenco guitar Josep Henríquez 2022

This flamenco guitar was made by the guitar maker Josep Henríquez, in 2022. Born in Barcelona in 1951, Josep Henríquez is such a versatile artist: a guitarist, composer, arranger, conference speaker, author, designer, and guitar maker. As a guitarist, he has offered guitar concerts and masterclasses for more than 45 years all over the world. As a luthier, Henríquez started in the guitar-making business in 1993 under Antonio Picardo´s teachings, an excellent maker, and admired friend. Josep Henríquez´s workshop is located in Sant Antoni de Vilamajor, Barcelona. He carries on working on both classical and flamenco guitars by advance order. For the recording of his álbum, the Brazilian performer Yamandú Costa used “LIDA”, a seven-string guitar, specially made for him by Josep Henríquez.

The different woods in this flamenco guitar are of the top existing quality. The top is made of german spruce, with an outlined grain, straight and smooth, that endorse its exceptional quality. The back and sides are made of Indian rosewood, with a straight grain and beautiful tones.

The very personal and particular design of Henríquez´s guitars make them his instruments become a whole new concept in the guitar-making world. Its shape has an exclusive cutaway, which starts in fret 13, thus making the left-hand access easier for the performer when playing high-pitched tones. The cutaway does not make the volume of the soundbox vary, as it is counterbalanced on the central curves of the guitar, 0.5 cm wider on each one.

This is one of the two first guitars we receive from this charismatic guitar maker. The sound of this guitar is clearly multipurpose, and is just perfect for playing both flamenco and classical. It definitely sounds like a Spanish guitar, with extended resonance, and perfect balance between bass and treble notes. A guitar with great personality, acoustic volume and extraordinary versatility.

This guitar has the highly-valued “rebound beating” on the right hand, combined with fantastic softness on the left one, thus accomplishing the “perfect instrument”, should we want to spend hours and hours playing non-stop with a nice feeling of ease.
