Flamenco guitar Marote’s Juan López Aguilarte 1993

This flamenco guitar has been made by the luthier Juan López Aguilarte in 1993. Juan López Aguilarte was born in Seville in 1941, but he moved to Granada, along with his family, when he was still young. He worked as a cabinetmaker. After that, he started working in Manuel Bellido´s workshop, where he learned the profession of luthier. Later on, he would work for Eduardo Ferrer and Antonio Durán. In 1979 he started his own workshop in 3 Placeta Aliatar Street. At present he is retired and lives in Armilla (Granada).

This guitar was commissioned to Juan López Aguilarte by maestro Juan Maya, aka “Marote”. This prestigious guitarist from Granada always showed a refined taste for flamenco guitars. Actually, all along his carrer, he was known for owning some of the finest instruments made by the very best makers (Manuel Reyes, Sobrinos de Domingo Esteso…). This guitar is made in a particularly careful way, always employing the best woods, with a down-to-detail making process, thus obtaining an instrument of the highest quality. A true historical gem.

The woods in this flamenco guitar are simply perfect. The top is made of German spruce, with an amazing grain: completely straight and uniform. The back and sides are made of an extraordinary cypress.

The sound beats all the expectations one may have before testing a guitar. The bass stops are powerful, with a dry and percussive timbre. The trebles are crystal-clear, with an unbeatable scope and definition. A real gem, capable of making anybody fall in love with it, no matter how demanding they are.

The tension is medium, very comfortable for both hands, due to the reduced height of strings in the saddle and fingerboard.

The condition of this guitar is excellent and completely original, without any kind of cracks or repairs whatsoever.
