Flamenco guitar Modesto Borreguero 1930

This flamenco guitar was built by the legendary luthier Modesto Borreguero in 1930. Modesto Borreguero, born in Madrid in 1892, was a prominent guitar maker. At the age of 12, he began his apprenticeship in the workshop of Manuel Ramírez, one of the most prestigious luthiers of the time. After Ramírez’s death in 1916, Borreguero continued working in his workshop, but in 1923 he opened his own business on Duque de Fernán Núñez Street. His fame grew, exporting guitars to South America and gaining recognition for his skill in building both concert guitars and popular instruments like lutes and bandurrias. After the Spanish Civil War, he became a respected luthier in Madrid, even collaborating with ONCE. He passed away in 1969 after a long career dedicated to his craft.

The woods used in this flamenco guitar are of exceptional quality. The spruce top has a very marked, straight, and uniform grain throughout its surface, while the sides and back are made of cypress of excellent beauty and quality.

The sound of this flamenco guitar is pure magic. We had been dreaming for years of seeing and playing a Modesto Borreguero guitar, and it turns out that finding an instrument from this artisan is even more difficult than finding one by Torres or Santos Hernández… It took us 12 years! Its timbre is powerful and flamenco, with extraordinary projection and a sweetness and sound quality that only the greatest master craftsmen have achieved.

The action of this flamenco guitar is medium, with very balanced string height both on the fretboard and the saddle, providing the guitarist with great comfort for both hands and ease of playing.

The condition of this flamenco guitar is exceptional, especially considering its construction date. It has a small repair on the soundboard for two worm lines and some superficial cracks on the upper part of the back, all perfectly repaired and documented in the attached images.
